It Lingers

Lying in shadows cast by the moon
Reluctantly creeping back to my room

Waking to promises of the perfect day
"Just one more kiss" was all I could say

I lay there in silence, inhaling your scent
The landlords were coming, so away you went

Those days spent living a lucid dream
Launched my new life, how different it seemed

Lying in bed, wishing to stay
The plane ride home: I cried the whole way.

Your scent on my skin lingered a while
I spent that whole day forcing a smile

Sadness and joy made my tears flow
As I gazed at the ocean, so far below

Your endless blue eyes can take me away
In just a few years, forever we'll stay

Locked in perpetual love till the end
Till the laws of society finally bend

For now we're locked in our separate cells
Temporarily living our personal hells
